About

Origin of our school
It was 29th December 1936, when the Marchioness of Linlithgow, the Patron–in–chief of the convention of the teachers of the deaf in India addressing a conference at Kolkata,
described the deaf as a person who did not hear a word of ordinary conversation. Then after Mr. N. Majumdar, the Zonal Secretary of the teachers of the deaf of Bengal, Bihar, Orissa and Assam, in a convention of the teachers of the deaf requested Mr. Kshitish Chandra Bose, Secretary of the Harijan Sevak Sangha, Ranchi
(also a member of Gandhi Sevek Sangha) to take up the work for the deaf in Chhotanagpur Division. After inspiration, he called for a meeting on 13th July 1937 in Collin’s Co-operative Building, Ranchi. The meeting was attended by only five gentlemen. At that time under the Presidentship of Rai Bahadur P.K. Banerjee with Kshitish Babu as Secretary, an organizing committee was instituted. The organizing committee appointed two trained teachers on 2nd January 1938 and led the school's foundation stone. The school was started and named Chhotanagpur Deaf & Dumb School. Kshitish Babu was assigned to perform as Principal. He was a very dedicated man towards social services. At that time total strength of the school was 09 only. The school was formally opened by Shri Chandmal Jain and a donation of Rs 290/- was the only initial capital. A Managing Committee was set up with Rai Bahadur P.K.Benerjee as its President. Later on 17th March 1950, a piece of land was donated in Niwaranpur, Ranchi by Shri Bansidhar Modi, Son of Shri Bhimraj Modi, since then the school has owned its land and buildings.
Growth
All those visitors contributed handsomely to the institution time to time. The number of students on role steadily increased from year to year and in 2012 the number was increased upto 80 out of which 20 were girls. That time the school needs more
equipment and literature, visual-aids for auditory training for lip reading and for language development. Presently there are no more required of electronic device. This is the pioneer institution for hearing handicapped children of Jharkhand State. Since then the Managing Committee of the school is providing free education to those children, who are belonging to economically weaker sections. The expenditure of the school is being managed by mobilizing donation from generous individuals and organizations, except only salary of the teachers and staff is borne by the Government of Jharkhand. The school is not only giving free education to the hearing impaired children but also provide some of the down trodden poor children free board and lodging facility as many of them come from financially backward class of society but having keen interest for education .
